San Diego Decks and the Right Way to Take Care of Them from Jim Grant

DECK2 DECK

If you take the time to put in a new deck, it’s important you take great care of it and maintain it along the way. Environmental factors can take a toll on even the most beautiful deck. In the San Diego Union-Tribune, Jim Grant of San Diego Power Wash gives pointers on how to maintain and restore the life of the deck you’ve already got.

Grant says it’s important to determine the cause of the discoloration and then the “proper cleaning methods and solutions can be used to restore the color to the decking or exterior wood.” He also clears up the misconception of power washing and assures that it’s “best to trust someone who has extensive experience using a pressure washer…as wood is soft and you can damage the surface easily.”

Once a deck has been properly cleaned, it’s time to restore it with a protective finish. This keeps the nice, clean deck looking nice and clean for much longer. Grant recommends J&W Lumber for obvious reasons, but says, “I have worked with JW Lumber for many years and find the coatings they carry to be some of the best on the market.”
